Glaire Anderson
Glaire D Anderson is an award-winning author and historian of Islamic architecture, art, and history. She’s the founding director of the Digital Lab for Islamic Visual Culture & Collections and Senior Lecturer in Islamic Art at the University of Edinburgh.
Dr Anderson helps industry, academic, and GLAM (Galleries, Archives, Libraries, and Museums) partners make Islamic art and history visible and accessible. Her work with video games and XR has been recognized by the Barakat Trust; the UK Economic Social and Research Council; Immersive Scotland; the Edinburgh Centre for Data, Culture, and Society; and Creative Informatics.
She has taught at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Boston Architectural College, Dartmouth College, and Brandeis University. She earned her PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture.
Her latest book, “A Bridge to the Sky,” explores science and visual culture in the age of the caliphs through the career of ninth century polymath Abbas Ibn Firnas, and will be published by Oxford University Press.
